Blogging Every Day for a Month

From the 1st to the 31st October I will be blogging every day for a month and I thought you should all be pre-warned of my challenge in case you’re wondering why I’m spamming you, though I promise the spam will be quality content only. Mostly, maybe, ha, who knows. I’ve only pre-written about 10 blogs, so I’m gonna be writing on the fly.

This idea came about for a few reasons. The first one is to combat my excessive lazy writing habits and the insane levels of blog procrastination I’m currently experiencing. I also thought it would be damn cool to check out the stats afterwards and share them all with you, for scientific purposes of course.

Lastly… I’ve been trying to crack the freelance-writing egg and I am failing miserably, so I thought, what the hell am I thinking?? Let’s invest my precious time into my blog instead, even if I only make on average $1.45 USD a month.

You have to start somewhere, right?

Here’s the outline of my experiment:

The “Blogging Every Day for a Month” Experiment

Aim: I shall be bringing you plenty of cats, good vibes, scholarly literary advice and stories. I will then be assessing their impact on my blog.

Hypothesis: my stats will slowly increase during the month of September and will look like a bell curve from August to October.

Equipment: WordPress platform, words from my brain

Procedure: blogging every day at 11.55pm AEST (+10)

Safety/risks: will I be getting any sleep?

Results: will include those charts direct from WordPress because who has time for excel

Discussion: did I get the results I expected??

Conclusion: was it worth it? Will I be able to buy a vanilla latte vegan green tea latte with the proceeds? Will I do it again?

  4. I just had an idea. Using most of the cat-oriented blogs you should try writing a biography of your cat. You should write from the point of view of your cat. “Now Milly is alright as humans go but why did she name me Satan? I’m not a bad cat. I don’t shred the curtains with my claws (I could), I don’t upend the litter box (I could do that too)… More fodder for the blog. Now out of simple curiosity what is your cats’ name? Could end up with a children’s book.

  6. I am really interested to see how this works! I have always been undecided about daily blogging and have wondered if it could be too much of a good thing. Or, in my case, too much of a weird thing; I don’t think anyone wants to read about a psycho French cat every single day. Let us know how it goes!

  9. My goal for the 2019 last half-year is to blog at least once a month. I am successful so far. I would not dare to attempt every day.
    As far as freelancers, I have not tried being a freelancer. But I have hired freelance writers to provide appendix material for my science fiction books and plan to do so in October also. I enjoy hiring them for character backstories, giving them credit, and some science essays about the future of technology or the plausibility of some of the future science portrayed in my story. It’s fun having someone else do my work.

  10. Good luck with that. I’ve been blogging every day for 9 years. But my blog is more photography oriented. When you are low on ideas, or need something to fill in while finishing a major post, cat photos and quick kitty stories are always popular (as I think you are well aware), and nice fillers while you are working out ideas and completing projects.

  13. Glad you’re giving it a go! One a day is ambitious.

    Freelancing can be tough. I’ve got experience as a professional writer and it’s hit or miss, though the more you do it, the easier it is. My big breakthrough came when I started doing marketing copy as a newbie writer with no agency experience. If you’re interested in that, I’d start learning the ropes (lots of resources out there). Might take lots of applying but companies and agencies are always looking for good writers. Just got to get your foot in the door to get that experience and credibility.

    Have you tried to get jobs through a staffing service? Not sure what you have available there, but for example, I go through a company called Creative Circle that supplies writers and designers, often on a temp basis, with companies.

    1. Thank you so much for your comment about freelancing! I think my worry is that I’m not a good enough writer. I wrote a trial article for an online magazine once and the editor slammed me for it and picked it to pieces. Shook my confidence and I’ve found it hard applying for jobs since then.

      Thanks for the suggestions 🙂 I’m not really sure what you mean by a staffing service? I’ve applied for quite a few writing websites (think upwork) but have yet to be accepted by a single one. Creative Circle looks great. Is that an American thing?
