And no, it’s not The Little Ice Cream Shoppe’s Red Velvet Chocolate Cupcake Ice Cream. I mean, it might be… but moving on…
It’s of the literary kind.
Matthew Reilly has always been my favourite author of all-time, and while he will remain in my top spot forever, another Australian author has very nearly eclipsed him.
Which is a big thing, because I LOVE Matthew Reilly. I own every single one of his books and can modestly say I have read Ice Station at least 6-7 times.
But Jane Harper.
Oh my God.
Her books are thrilling.
I bought Force of Nature as a birthday present for my mum last year. The stunning cover saw me plucking it off the shelf.
Maybe it’s the way the bright pops of green foliage contrasts deliciously with the whitish type font? Or maybe even the way the ‘H’ and ‘A’ appear to be sinking into the depths below?
When I finally got around to borrowing and reading the book myself, I was blown away.
The novel, set in the Australian bushland, follows a group of wayward bushwalkers. It is infused with a chilling eeriness and had me hooked from the beginning. By the time I turned the last page I was both satisfied and parched. I needed more. I also remember thinking there is no way in hell I could ever write something this riveting!
To satisfy my thirst, I hastily bought her two other books, The Dry (Eric Bana is set to star in the film adaption) and her new release, The Lost Man. In particular, The Lost Man really sang to me as I have relatives who own a huge property in outback Queensland…
I read The Lost Man in one sitting. My sojourn into Harper’s desert world left me yawning at work the next day, but it was totally worth it. I couldn’t put her book down and it would have been absolute torture sitting at work all day, wondering how the hell it was all going to end.
If you love a good thriller, I honestly can’t even recommend her enough! And for all the crime writers out there, she is definitely someone to aspire to.
P.s I just realised it’s Valentine’s Day! I can’t WAIT until tomorrow when we can get 50% off chocolate!! I usually write about Valentine’s Day every year and how I’m single today of all days. This time around? I simply don’t even care!
Mmm… chocolate…

That really is a catchy cover. And it’s like Jane Austen said: If a book is well written I always find it too short.

Now, are you sure you liked it? (just kidding). Now about this…” there is no way in hell I could ever write something this riveting!” You can and you probably will do exactly that (I’m wagging my finger at you). I’ve followed your blog for less than a year but if there is one thing I’ve learned about you is that you’ll give it a damn good try. Now, are you really sure you liked it? Blog your review to Jane Harper’s web site. It just might put a smile on her face. (Jeez, when Milly likes a book she doesn’t mince words…oh yes she does. She missed the “n” in yawning

Happy Valentine’s day! Yeah I was MIA for a while, it’s nice having a break but I was anxious to get stuck back into everything. Thanks so much for stopping by! I love all of Matthew Reillys books, especially Ice Station and Contest.

That really does sound good!
To me, it’s the fading of the title that hooks my eyes.

Actually yes you’re right, the fading too! I forgot to add that. It all contrasts so nicely. I wonder who her book designer is
