Are you on Facebook?

So you won’t believe it, but I’ve only just created my very first Facebook page for my blog. I really don’t know why I never took the plunge before!

This is my page if anyone’s interested in connecting with me there:

I suppose I always believed if I created a Facebook page, my friends and family would find my blog eventually – the last thing I ever wanted! But you know what, I’m not going to be afraid anymore.

Yes, I occasionally spill my heart out on here and moan about all the rejections I’ve faced throughout my failed writing career – but that’s okay. I shouldn’t be afraid to share this part of myself with my friends, especially as it takes up a huge chunk of my life!

I love that I’ve met so many wonderful people through my blog and I’m hoping a few of you are on Facebook too! (And any chance I can steal your secrets on how to run a Facebook page? Coz I ain’t got no real clue what I’m doing).

I have managed a few Facebook pages for work before, but that was years ago and they were business pages, so feel free to share your #success or #epicfail stories with me below! Also, please do leave the link to your author/writer Facebook page so I can find you.

Thanks peeps πŸ™‚

Milly

  2. I have a quick question. I have a Facebook profile that portrays my regular daily life as me, but I chose to remain anonynous for my blogs. Is there a way to create a page in Facebook for my WordPress blog without creating a whole new Facebook profile and/or remain anonymous from family and friends?

  3. haha first I started an instagram account, after that I’ve been convinced to start a blog and yaaay I have my blog up and running for a while now, and now a facebook page 😨 the dark side. I kind of feel like i am lost. Like literally. Facebook is hectic lately and our days are fast and crzy too… and even my invitation for friends, to like the page are pretty much lost. “i sent you a notification about it”… “what notification?” …. “oh yea it’s here.” I found it much easier to reach out to my first 1000 follower on Instagram, then the first 10 on Facebook πŸ˜€ I have to admit, I am struggling with facebook. Any ideas and opinions are welcome, and thank you guys!

I wish you the best on Facebook, Milly. Personally, I have just deleted my account there because I found that FB screams for attention for all the wrong reasons, at least in my case. I prefer the more interactive style of Google Plus. Yes, it still exists πŸ™‚

  16. Hi! I just started following you on FB πŸ™‚ When I launched my blog I also launched my FB Page at the same time! Haha, it was scary and I had no idea what I was doing but setting it up was easy. I found a bunch of my friends and family to follow me and from there I’ve followed Blogging Groups to gain followers on my page. I set my page as a Business page so I can see analytics and promote my posts (I haven’t done this yet but might soon).

What is your Utube? The same as your blog and yes ot would make a good U-tube video i dont think it really does much promoting them its just a way forr fb to make money amd charge for something. There are so many platforms you can promote for free.

          1. So interesting, and weird that they didn’t tell you they were going to charge that much! Yes, I agree there are other platforms to use for free. Are you on Pintrest? Still trying to see how that all works.

  17. I have found the most helpful info from Kristin Lamb, who encourages us author types to keep their Facebook pages personal, that is, more about what other interests you have aside from story-writing. Use it to connect with people on a real, personal level, even if, or especially if, it’s about interests in common with them (such as cats). I comment mostly about everything but writing, then occasionally about something writing-related.

Congratulations on starting your own Facebook page for your blog! I trust you will do sensational on it. It really is a great way to promote your writing. I did a page for my book and it has done pretty well so far.

One thing I would recommend is what is called “post boosts.” I only pay $5 for post boost and I run it for two days (that’s all you really need). You can target your audience by location, tastes, interests and anything else. You can make it as specific or as broad as possible. You will get more people coming to your page and checking out your material than if you just posted without boosting. Do it every so often to increase your fan base. I know it has helped me out.

Lastly, your writing career has not failed. You are reaching audiences and by the responses left behind by your readers, I would say that your writing is reaching people. Keep going! You’re doing marvelous. All the best!

  20. I totally get being nervous about making a Facebook page! I am so nervous about my family/close friends reading my blog, and I honestly don’t know why. I’m happy to share my rambles with strangers, but once someone I know in person reads it I feel incredibly exposed. I do have a Facebook/Instagram page for my Etsy store, Var Stuga, but I don’t ever post on it because I’m nervous people I know will find it (such a great business model!) Someday I’ll get over it!

It’s weird though. I manage other people’s Facebook fan pages, no problem, but it seems so hard putting yourself ‘out there’ on social media. And this is after I self published a novel already. Not that I’ve marketed that enough…yet!

  28. Your FB page is not your personal FB?
So, to get more people to follow your page, you must post regularly, but not too much.
Post nice blogs of other people as well. Then your page get a nice one to follow.
In the process you help others, but you help yourself as well.
    Good luck!

It’s a great way to get your, your blog, or your FB page out there and seen by a variety of people. You also control the total cost, length of the promotion and all the parameters.

  42. I find I end up with two slightly different audiences. While I get some cross over, people tend to come to one platform as their primary social media interaction. My facebook friends read and comment on my stuff there and don’t often click through to the blog, but without both, there are a number of people who’d never see my stuff. You need both and sometimes you need content that only goes to the blog or only to FB – most times I just let WP post my stuff to FB automatically.
