When you’re single & a romance writer on February 14th

On February 14th 2016 I’ll be in Paris sipping a ristretto and eating macarons at Ladurée’s on the Champs-Élysées! Ok I’ll admit that’s not quite the truth… I actually plan to spend my Valentine’s Day working on my romance novel while watching something along the lines of Sense and Sensibility or Emma.

I think it’s hilariously ironic that I’m single and love writing romance stories, so on February 14th I think I might invest particular attention on some of the more angsty, we-will-never-end-up-together-but –then-we-do scenes. May as well let someone get some love in this world, even if it’s only fictional!

If you haven’t already, any single lovebirds out there simply must watch Cian Twomey’s video: When you have no date for valentine’s day (7 million views and counting). I’ve never laughed and snorted so hard in my life. You’ll never be able to say ‘Valentine’s Day’ again without an accent. And ‘Hello? Hello? Hello? Hello? will take on a whole new meaning…

I also plan to watch Bridget Jones’s Diary (or Pride and Prejudice, either one), eat an entire block of chocolate (cheat meal day!) and read Seven Letter’s from Paris by Samantha Verant, thanks to Lisa’s must-read-that-book-now inducing review.

  2. Hi Milly
Genuinely enjoy your writing! I totally relate on the single yet writing romance part. That moment when you realize I’d make a great girlfrienday because I’ve had professional training in relationships from every Romance book I’ve read. 😂 And the video 😱😱was soo good. I never related to a video that much haha. Sad. 🤔 But I enjoy being single as well. Keeps me believing in all my fantasies about love. Kinda ducks when you’re in a relationship and you realize you can’t dream about Prince Charming anymore because you’re dating a guy that snores and acts like a moron most of the time😂

    Cheers

    3. Hi ! Sorry I didn’t reply last year, I didn’t see this comment! It’s so sad when you finally start dating someone and you’re like… ‘is this it? Where’s my Prince charming?’ All those great love stories in books and movies definitely set us up to fail! Real life is nowhere near that magical, although it can be fulfilling if you let it. I suppose I’m just not ready to give up on my unrealistic dreams hahaha

I’m single and I’m not a romance writer. But who really cares? Right? You should only enter into a relationship if the other person is right for you. And vise versa.

    1. Exactly, and that’s why I was single for 8 years

        1. I promise I didn’t laugh at your response!! I can just imagine you sitting there saying that. Oh and this is the first time I can say that I’m not (though I was when I wrote this article)

I bet you did laugh at me. But seriously society places such an emphasis on “being in a relationship” that it puts social pressure on some folks. Just my opinion.

Yeah. But you’re a lady. I think it’s different for females. There’s an Enterprise commercial you should watch. It’s hilarious. Here’s the link if you haven’t seen it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJVCNNCf7Q0

    1. Thanks!! Yes I ended up having a pretty good day! It was filled with pizza, chocolate & classic girly movies (instead of bridget jones, we watched Coyote Ugly – can’t believe it came out 16 years ago now!) Hope you had a lovely day as well!!

  9. I also love entering that world of romantic love, as a writer and reader of it, even though I am married. It’s just a sweet benefit of being a romance writer, regardless of whether or not we’re with someone. 🙂

    1. Yes I absolutely love going into that world, mothing like a bit of fictional love to get the soul singing!!

    2. Oh and you know that first scene in Romancing the stone when Joan finishes her novel? That’s totally what I do!! Haha…

      1. Haha, Millie!! That’s awesome! I just watched it again on Youtube and laughed so hard. I get emotional, too, when writing a great romantic ending, but wow, I’d love to get to that place where tears are pouring down my cheeks from what I write. 🙂 Write on, sis.

That was hilarious…thanks for sharing! And hey, Feb 14 has become more of a commercial event than a day for love, so you’re not missing out on much.

    1. Hahaha thank you!! Yes you’re so right, it’s very commercial these days! I’m glad to hear I’m not missing out on much 🙂 And luckily my sister’s single too, so we’re all going to watch bridget jones’s together 🙂
